Monthly Podcast Episode Round-Up – October 2024
Welcome to our October round-up of episodes from Socialite Crime Club! This month, we dive deep into cases filled with deception, corruption, and the complexities of human behavior. Join hosts Sy Ray and Keri Ray as they explore these gripping stories that highlight the darker sides of society. Here’s what we covered:
1. Episode 49: Viva Las Vegas
Las Vegas has a problem. In this episode, we reveal how Sgt. Kevin Menon of the Metro police was arrested for instigating false arrests and terrorizing visitors on the Strip. Assigned to the Tourist Safety Division, Menon instead harassed tourists, instigated fights, and framed visitors for illegal activities. We uncover the web of corruption and lies behind his actions, making this our first episode covering an open case!
2. Episode 50: No Love Loss
This week, we explore how each bullet tells a story and how crime scenes can be misleading. In Gilbert, Arizona, a frightened husband calls 911, claiming a sniper has shot his wife, Laura Lattimore Detectives, fearing for their safety, discover the woman alive, but the subsequent investigation reveals a crime scene that tells a different story, where the bullet trajectory evidence just doesn’t add up.
3. Episode 51: Midlife Crisis
In May 2010, Sy Ray found himself in the midst of a midlife crisis that led him directly into the chaos of the Afghanistan War. Serving as a subject matter expert in criminal enterprise investigation, Sy collaborated with American and New Zealand troops to combat Al Qaeda operatives. His harrowing experiences included extraordinary moments, such as jumping on an IED like a trampoline. This episode dives into the complexities of war, personal challenges, and the lengths one will go to for their mission.
3. Episode 52: Catfish Killer
On the surface, Cody Virgin seemed to have it all: a supportive network, a new job, and a budding relationship. However, dark forces were at play when a new Facebook friend promised adventure, leading Cody into a dangerous situation. In this episode, we unravel the tragic 2017 catfish killing of Cody Virgin by William Randolph, exploring the risks of online connections.
4. Episode 53: Kill Your Darlings
Happy One Year Anniversary, Socialites! In our special anniversary episode, we tackle the cesspool that is true crime by scrutinizing the Culpable podcast hosted by Dennis Cooper. Culpable spent an entire season portraying the suicide of Christian Andreacchio as a murder conspiracy, manipulating facts and fabricating narratives. We unpack their lies and discuss what true crime should be when it’s not filled with charlatans capitalizing on trauma.
